FEMTOLASIK

Introduction to FEMTOLASIK

When it comes to your vision, people rely on glasses and contact lenses on a daily basis. Problems in the vision can affect a person's convenience, confidence and lifestyle. One would rather have to wear glasses to help their vision at the price of hurting their confidence. That’s why it is important to know about modern technology that can help your vision and help you avoid wearing glasses. FEMOLASIK is a more advanced version of LASIK and it uses laser technology instead of blades. This method helps with recovery time and precision.

What is FEMTOLASIK

In order to correct one's vision, doctors can use a laser eye surgery method. The surgery improves how light focuses on the retina. FEMTOLASIK is a surgery that focuses on vision correction, this is done by using a femtosecond laser to create a thin flap in the corner before an excimer laser reshapes the cornea underneath.

How FEMTOLASIK Works

How does FEMTOLASIK work? Having a bad vision can affect daily life. FEMTOLASIK can help and works by reshaping the cornea to improve focus by allowing light to hit the retina directly. The cornea plays an important role when it comes to focusing light and it being out of shape can cause blurry vision.

Who is Suitable for FEMTOLASIK

There are some general requirements, it is usually done when one is above 18, has had stable vision for at least a year and has common eye issues like nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism.

On the other hand, those that may not be suitable for the surgery include people with certain eye conditions, very thin corneas, severe dry eyes and pregnant women.

Vision Problems It Can Treat

Nearsightedness (Myopia)

This condition is when distant objects are blurry this is caused by how light focuses on the eye.

Farsightedness (Hyperopia)

What is hyperopia? Well, this is when close up vision is unclear, causing people to have issues seeing when things are close.

Astigmatism

What is astigmatism? This is when distorted or uneven appearances affect the vision. This can be due to an irregular cornea shape.

What to Expect Before the Procedure

Included in the preparation of FEMTOLASIK are the following: detailed eye examination, measuring one’s cornea shape and thickness, and checking the overall health of the eye. Some patients could be required to stop wearing contact lenses before the surgery.

The Procedure

The procedure is actually quite quick and lasts between 15-20 minutes. Numbing eye drops are used before the laser creates a thin flap. The cornea is then reshaped and the flap is placed back. The procedure is usually without pain and does not require stitches.
